Baltimore Schools

The Baltimore Metropolitan Area truly has some wonderful schools. There are many fine private and parochial schools in and around Baltimore. This writer has children that attended an excellent private high school and an excellent parochial high school. They each received a fine education and learned to be good citizens as well as good students.

The Baltimore public school system also has some fine schools and both of the writer’s children attended the early grades at Baltimore City Public School System elementary and middle schools. However, neither of us, as parents, were willing to send our kids to a BCPSS high school, and they both qualified for the top schools.

The local media often uses the adjective “beleaguered” when describing Baltimore City Public Schools. Deserved or not, the adjective is frequently there — so something must be amiss. Unfortunately, for the students, parents and citizens of Baltimore City a lot of work needs to be done to improve the quality of the local schools.
